Introduction

AFD Postcode Evolution for BigCommerce is an app that allows you to harness the full power of the AFD Postcode Evolution address validation within your BigCommerce checkout. The app is designed to be easy to use and to provide a seamless integration with your store.

Out of the box it supports the standard open BigCommerce Checkout and also the BundleB2B checkout.

Installation & Setup

To install the AFD Postcode Evolution for BigCommerce app, you will need to follow the steps below:

Navigate to the BigCommerce App Marketplace and search for AFD Postcode Evolution or simply click here.
Click on the app and then click on the “Get this app” button.
You will be prompted to log in to your BigCommerce store if you are not already logged in.
Once logged in, you will be asked to confirm that you want to install the app. Click on the “Confirm” button.
You will then be taken to the app dashboard.

On the Authentication tab, enter your ID and Token. If you do not have an ID and Token pair, you can contact AFD Support on 01624 811712 or email support@afd.co.uk.
On the Addresses -> Form Settings tab you need to install the custom AFD version of the BigCommerce checkout that will add address validation to your checkout experience. Click the “Install AFD Checkout Script” button and choose the version of checkout that you would like to install. If you are using the standard BigCommerce checkout, you should choose the “Standard Checkout” option. If you are using the BundleB2B checkout, you should choose the “BundleB2B Checkout” option. If you are already using another custom checkout script please get in touch with AFD Software support to discuss whether or not your checkout is compatible with the AFD Postcode Evolution for BigCommerce app.
On the Settings -> Advanced -> Account Sign-Up Form -> Address Fields tab you need to Create a New Field and then select Text Field. Once the created, you need to the give the field the following attributes:
- Field Name: Typeahead
- CSS Class Name: Textbox Field200
Your checkout will now be updated with the AFD Postcode Evolution address validation. You can test this by going to your store and adding a product to your basket and then proceeding to the checkout. You should see the AFD Postcode Evolution address validation in action.

Configuration

The AFD Postcode Evolution for BigCommerce app has a number of configuration options that you can use to customise the app to your needs. These options can be found in the Field Configuration, Country Configuration, and Results Quantity sub menus of the Addresses tab.

Field Configuration

The field configuration tab allows you to customise how address fields are displayed on the address form and how they interact with the address search (typeahead) control.

Placeholder text

The text that will appear in the typeahead control before the user begins typing.

Hide typeahead field after selecting address

If this option is enabled, the typeahead field will be hidden after the user selects an address.

Clear typeahead field after selecting address

If this option is enabled, the typeahead field will be cleared after the user selects an address.

Hide address fields before search

If this option is enabled, the address fields will be hidden until the user performs an address search.

Search Again Button Text

The text that will appear on the “Search Again” button that appears after an address search and the ‘Hide address fields before search’ option is enabled.

Enable manual entry button

If this option is enabled as well as “Hide address fields before search”, the “Input Address Manually” button will be displayed. Which when clicked will hide the typeahead fields and show the address fields.

Manual Input Button Text

The text that will appear on the “Input Address Manually” button that appears before address search and the ‘hide typeahead field after selection’ option is enabled.

Address Search Button Text

The text that appears once the manual input button has been clicked , this button enables the user to search for an address again and will hide the address fields once clicked.

Hide empty address fields

After an address populates the address fields, any empty fields will be hidden.

Highlight matching search strings in results

This option will highlight the matching search strings in the address search results.

Display postcode before address in results

This option will display the postcode before the address in the address search results.

AFD County Field

Which AFD PCE County field will be used to populate the BigCommerce state/region field.

Use Zip+4 for USA addresses

If this option is enabled, the address search will populate the postal code field with Zip+4 code for USA addresses.

Country Configuration

The country configuration tab allows you to specify which countries have address validation enabled.

Results Configuration

Maximum number of results returned

The maximum number of address search results that will be returned.

If zero or fewer than maximum number of results are returned show suggestion for manual entry

If this option is enabled, a suggestion to input the address manually will be displayed if zero or fewer than the maximum number of results are returned.
