TUNDRA integration was developed in direct response to university feedback about the inefficiencies of manually retrieving area classification codes.
Previously, staff had to copy an address, visit a government site, extract the relevant TUNDRA codes, and paste them into statutory returns – an error-prone and time-consuming process.
Now, when a student or staff member enters and selects an address, the TUNDRA data is automatically returned. This eliminates the need to switch between systems, reduces the risk of errors, and significantly speeds up the returns process.
Using the form below, enter your postcode or start typing an address to see results returned. Select an address and you will see the TUNDRA data returned.
TUNDRA (tracking underrepresentation by area) classifies local areas in England into five groups (quintiles) based on the proportion of 16 year old state-funded mainstream school pupils who progress to higher education at 18 or 19.
It uses both 2011 MSOA (middle super output area) and LSOA (lower super output area) codes to define local areas, helping to identify where participation is lowest.
Unlike POLAR4, TUNDRA focuses specifically on state-funded mainstream school pupils in England, giving a sharper, more targeted view of access to higher education.
