Recent Changes
Rutland Again Recognised as a County!

Residents in the LE16 8 and LE15 6 to 9 postcode sectors may now see Rutland once again used as a county name on their letters.

This is because Royal Mail has now recognised Rutland as a postal county and is including this in PAF products.

Although the use of county names in postal addresses is optional (the key information is the Post Town and Postcode) many people like to include a county name in their address and Royal Mail is happy for this to happen.

Royal Mail has now recognised that classifying the areas of Oakham and Uppingham as "Leicestershire" instead of Rutland did not reflect reality and was in fact an anomaly created in the 1970s. As such these areas are being changed back to what was in use prior to 1974, namely Rutland.

This change applies to addresses covered within the LE16 8 and LE15 6 through to 9 postcode sectors, covering more than 13,000 delivery points in the Oakham and Uppingham area.

This change is included in AFD Postcode Products from Q.1/08 onwards.
