Introduction

AFD Postcode Evolution® for Magento is a Magento extension that allows you to harness the full power of AFD Software’s Postcode Evolution® web service within your own ecommerce store. Using this extension, your customers will have a simplified checkout experience.

When inputting their address, they simply need to input the postal/zip code and the rest of the address data will automatically be imported to the relevant fields in the address form.

The data received will depend on your licence type. You can also use AFD Postcode Evolution® functionality in the customer address forms in the admin panel.

Installation and Setup

  1. It is recommended that you first test the extension on a test server and backup your server before installing on a live server.
  2. Disable Magento Cache and Compilation before installing.
  3. From the installation zip file, extract the contents of the “extension” folder into the root Magento directory on your server.
  4. In your Magento admin panel, browse to System -> Configuration. In the side menu under the “AFD Software Ltd” subheading click “Postcode Evolution Configuration”.
  5. Change “Enable Module” to “Enabled”
  6. In the account configuration section input your serial number and password that has been provided by AFD Software.
  7. The Licence type section is used to define which countries the module will be available for. Please note that if you enter the details in this section wrong, your customers may be greeted by licence errors.

    • If you are using Postcode Plus, your configuration should look like this:

      Magento Integration - Manual

    • If you are using ZipAddress only then your configuration should look like this:

      Magento Integration - Manual

    • If you are using WorldAddress only then your configuration should look like this:

      Magento Integration - Manual

    • If you are using WorldAddress combined with a UK product (Postcode Plus) then your configuration should look like this:

      Magento Integration - Manual

  8. The extension can optionally update the layout of the frontend forms so that the postcode and country are moved to the top of the address forms, making it more obvious to the customer that they do not need to type in their address. You can toggle these in the “Update Layout of Address Forms” section of the config page.

  9. Once you have completed the form, click “Save Config”. Now you can browse to any form in the frontend or backend to check the functionality of the extension.

Customisation

When a postcode returns multiple options for a lookup, a popup list box will appear giving the user the opportunity to choose the correct address. This popup box is a standard jQueryUI dialog and can easily be styled to match your website’s design via CSS. Simply edit the file:

skin/frontend/base/default/css/afd_pce/jquery-ui-1.10.2.custom.min.css

Remember to keep a copy of this file when updating to new versions of the plugin so that your changes will not be lost.
