Introduction
AFD have developed a special version of Postcode for Sage Line 50.

Professional Quality - Nowhere is data accuracy and completeness more important than in an accounting system, and Sales Ledger records especially need to be impeccable. Enormous problems can result from inaccurate, incomplete or inconsistent addresses - not least the danger to credit control should duplicate accounts arise, and the inability to collect outstanding amounts if an address is wrong.

AFD Postcode uses data from the Royal Mail's Postcode Address File for maximum reliability and accuracy - it will not only save 80% of keying time but the addresses resulting will be more accurate and consistent: ensuring that the customer list is of far greater quality.

Improved Productivity - Type the Postcode, the street address is instantly complete. With AFD Postcode save 80% of keystrokes entering addresses.

Seamless Integration - AFD Postcode installs as a fully integrated Sage Line 50 option. No buttons to press, no program to run, the small application is always available.

Installing the Software
Existing Postcode Users who want to upgrade the program with a full Sage Line 50 integration need to download pcsage.exe

Sage users who dont have Postcode and want to try it need to first download and install pceval.exe and then install the PC Sage module from the link above.

Once you have the relevant files, ensure Postcode and Sage are not currently running on your computer.

If required install the Postcode Evaluation.

Run the PcSage.exe installer.

In Sage, click the Postcode button on the Sage toolbar to start it. You only need to do this the first time, not every time you use Sage.

The Application
When you start Sage our software waits for the entry of a Postcode or a directive into any of the address screens. Once entered, Postcode will do a search and insert the results directly into Sage or offer you a pick list to choose from. There's a menu available by clicking on the Postcode icon (shown below) in the Sage toolbar.

The AFD icon on the Sage menu

The Menu
As shown below, this screen allows you to pause the application, launch the Postcode front-end, or view the help. The about screen includes information about your Postcode set-up, such as the Data set you are using.

Changing County Options
Although no longer required by the Royal Mail for correct postal addressing, you can control how Postcode returns the County to Sage. To change the option, start the Postcode front-end, change the option under the Edit menu and close the front-end. The next time an address is inserted into Sage, the new settings will be taken into account.

Postcode Lookups
Enter a Postcode and 1 of 3 things will happen:

1. The address is found and entered for you instantly!

2. AFD Postcode will present you with a list of addresses to choose from as shown below. From here you can select the address and click insert (keyboard shortcut Alt+I). The address is then entered into Sage.

The list box with results

3. AFD Postcode will notify you it was unable to find the address - it will show the reason why - and you are returned to the Sage Line 50 screen

Search Guide
Enter the Postcode into any field in Sage Line 50 Address Wizard and the address, if found, will be inserted automatically, or you will be offered with a selection of addresses to choose from.

For the fastest results, with minimum typing, enter some information - such as building name or number followed by a Postcode  AFD Postcode will then return your property information along with the matching Postcode level street, locality, town and county information.

Entering a Postcode such as

B1 1AA Inserts a Postcode level address
282,B11 1AA Inserts a Postcode level address complete with the house number of 282 you specified

Fast Find

If you don't know the Postcode for the address, Postcode provides a Fast Find directive so that you can do a reverse search for a Postcode To identify a Fast find directive simple add f= to the start of the text and a forward slash "/" to the end of the search string e.g.

F=Gosta Green, Birmingham/ - Postcode will perform a search for "Gosta Green, Birmingham"

Text Entered into Sage Screen What happens
F=Gosta Green, Birmingham/ Returns 2 results
F=camden street,birmingham/ Returns 15 results
F=Royal, BIRMINGHAM Returns 1 result

Please note that Postcode returns a maximum of 300 records from a single lookup.  If 300 records are returned you may need to refine your lookup.
